10-Day Rwanda Discovery Safari

This 10-day journey stitches together Rwanda’s most powerful stories, landscapes, and wildlife encounters — from Kigali’s resilient spirit to the open savannas of Akagera, the misty volcanoes of the gorilla kingdom, the calm shores of Lake Kivu, and the ancient rainforests of Nyungwe.
It’s a deeply immersive experience designed for travelers who crave connection, comfort, and meaningful adventure.
Arrival
Day 1
Welcome to your Rwanda Discovery Safari
Arrive in Kigali, where our airport team greets you with warm hospitality, helps with immigration, luggage, and escorts you to your private guide. Enjoy a short 20-minute transfer to your hotel and settle into Rwanda’s peaceful capital.
Day 2
Kigali History • Akagera National Park • Lake Ihema Sunset
After breakfast, dive into Rwanda’s powerful history with a guided tour of Kigali, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial — a profound moment that sets the emotional context for your entire trip.
Continue your 2.5-hour scenic drive to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savanna park.
Optional stop: Imigongo Art Centre for coffee and local art.
This evening, glide through the calm waters of Lake Ihema on a sunset boat safari. Expect hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds, and glowing skies.
Day 3
Full-Day Big Five Safari in Akagera
Spend the day on a full safari in Akagera, one of Africa’s most conservation-success stories. Look out for the Big Five — lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo — along with giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and vibrant birdlife.
Enjoy a bush picnic lunch overlooking the plains before returning to camp for a relaxed evening.
Day 4
Scenic Drive to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, begin your 5.5-hour journey through Rwanda’s rolling hills toward the volcano belt.
Stop in Kigali for lunch if you wish before continuing your climb into the Virunga highlands.
Enjoy the evening at leisure at the foothills of the volcanic peaks.
Day 5
Gorilla Trekking: Face-to-Face in the Mist
Today is the highlight of your journey.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for your briefing, then begin your gorilla trek. The hike can take 3–7 hours depending on the family’s location.
That magical hour with the gorillas feels like stepping into a living documentary — watching the Silverback command the group, mothers cradle their young, and juveniles play with reckless joy.
Optional afternoon activities: massage, birdwatching, storytelling by the fire.
Day 6
To the Calm Waters of Lake Kivu
After a relaxed breakfast, drive 1.5 hours to Kibuye, one of Rwanda’s most scenic lakeside towns.
Spend your afternoon unwinding by the water, taking walks along the shoreline, or enjoying the slow, quiet rhythm of the lake.
Day 7
The Kivu Belt Journey to Nyungwe Forest
Today’s 5-hour drive along the Kivu Belt Road is a highlight in itself — panoramic waters, terraced hillsides, fishing villages, and endless beauty.
Arrive in Nyungwe and settle into your forest retreat.
Day 8
Chimpanzee Trekking & Nyungwe Canopy Walk
Start early (5:00 AM) for your chimpanzee trek, an exciting contrast to the slow, calm nature of gorillas. Chimps are fast, expressive, and energetic — the forest comes alive with their calls.
After lunch, enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a bridge suspended 70 meters above the rainforest — a breathtaking view of the ancient treetops.
Day 9
Cultural Drive to Kigali
After breakfast, begin your 7-hour scenic drive back to Kigali.
Stop at the King’s Palace Museum — a beautiful introduction to Rwanda’s pre-colonial monarchy, including the iconic long-horned Inyambo royal cows.
Arrive in Kigali for an evening of relaxation.
Day 10
Kigali • Departure
Enjoy a slow breakfast and optional last-minute shopping before your private transfer to Kigali Airport for your departure.
