TWO new gorilla births in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park! 🎉
We’re celebrating some heartwarming news from the lush, mist-covered hills of southwestern Uganda —two newborn baby mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park!
One newborn arrived in the Nkuringo family, born to the experienced mother Kwitonda, bringing this group’s size to 16 individuals. Not far off, the Busingye family also celebrated a birth, with proud mother Bizulu bringing her newborn into a group that now numbers 15.
Both mothers and their newborn gorillas are healthy and thriving—an encouraging sign for one of the world’s most endangered primates. This is a testament to the incredible work of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, dedicated researchers, rangers, and the strong support of local communities who protect and live alongside these great apes.
Mountain gorillas remain one of the rarest primates on Earth, with just over 1,000 individuals left in the wild. Uganda is home to more than half of this population, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—one of Africa’s most biodiverse rainforests—is a cornerstone of global conservation efforts. Best Time to Visit for a Gorilla Safari
Uganda’s dry seasons, from June to September and December to February, are the best times for gorilla trekking. The weather is ideal, and the trails are more accessible. However, even during the rainy seasons, the forests remain lush and vibrant, offering a unique charm. The newborn gorillas have come into the world in this May, which is in the rain season.
